Academic English at Worldwide School

This class is a full time class open to Intermediate to Advanced level students (students requiring an IELTS score of 5.0 to 6.5).

The IELTS exam is produced by Cambridge ESOL and is available at least monthly in Auckland. In 2010 the exam costs NZ$350.

Structure – The IELTS class at Worldwide School is offered in 8 week cycles. Course intakes are week 1 and week 5 and the minimum booking period will be 4 weeks. Students must study full time.

This course is at the same tuition rate as General English but students are required to buy an IELTS text book (NZ$60 in 2010).

Our classes run from Monday to Friday. Students are also expected to sign up for practice tests on a Friday afternoon.

Aims

The full-time IELTS course has 5 main aims:

*    to give students a thorough overview of the IELTS exam format

*    to give students opportunities to practise IELTS tasks and example questions

 *   to improve students’ overall proficiency by developing reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills

*    to build students’ knowledge of vocabulary specific to the IELTS exam

 *   to review the grammar necessary for students to perform well in IELTS

April 19 - June 11 (8 weeks)

June 21-August 13 (8 weeks)

1 week break

August 23 - October 15 (8 weeks)

1 week break

Oct 25 - Dec 17 (8 weeks)

Students wishing to do IELTS preparation outside these dates can choose the Self Access option and study in the Library.

Offshore pretests are available for agents.

* Please note Worldwide School has direct entry agreements  with many tertiary institutes. This means you do not need to take an IELTS exam in order to enter, but just take the IELTS class at Worldwide School and receive a letter of recommendation.
