 Academic English at Worldwide School

- IELTS

This class is open to Upper-Intermediate to Advanced level students.

The IELTS exam is produced by Cambridge ESOL and is available at least monthly in Auckland.

Structure – The IELTS class at Worldwide School is offered as a 5-week introduction to the IELTS exam and skills development programme. Classes run from Monday to Thursday, 1.30-3.30pm. Students are also encouraged to sign up for practice tests on a Friday afternoon. Students can choose up to 2 skills per week (Listening, Reading or Writing) to practise for the Friday afternoon tests.

Each week, students will focus on different skills and vocabulary specific to the IELTS exam:

Week 1 IELTS: Exam & Skills overview, and initial testing

Week 2 IELTS: Vocabulary & Reading Skills Focus, Introduction to Writing

Week 3 IELTS: Vocabulary and Writing Skills Focus

Week 4 IELTS: Writing Review, Vocabulary and Listening Skills Focus

Week 5 IELTS: Speaking Skills Focus & Final Testing

Aims – The Worldwide School IELTS class has 5 main aims:

1. To give students an overview of the IELTS exam suite.

2. To familiarize students with each part of the IELTS test.

3. To build students' knowledge of vocabulary specific to IELTS.

4. To develop students' skills in reading, writing, listening and speaking.

5. To give students opportunities to practise real IELTS test tasks.

11 February - 14 March

21 April - 23 May

30 June - 1 August

8 September - 10 October

-TOEIC

Worldwide School offers TOEIC preparation classes as part of its afternoon options.
The TOEIC exam is produced by ETS and is available fortnightly in Auckland.
Worldwide School is a TOEIC testing centre so students can take the TOEIC test
at Worldwide. Students need to pay for the TOEIC text book and test. The school
Library also has a lot of TOEIC material from which they can self-study.
This class is open to Intermediate - Advanced level students.

TOEIC Dates for 2008

5 courses per year, multiple exam dates available

7 January - 8 February

17 March - 18 April

26 May - 27 June

4 August - 5 September

13 October - 14 November

Students wishing to do TOEIC preparation outside these dates can choose the Self Access option and study in the Library.

These classes are the same price as general English courses.
